U is for Undo

I'm hanging in there with the annual A-to-Z Blogging Challenge. For more information on the challenge and its creator visit:   http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com

If you're just tuning in to my A to Z postings, my theme is home renovation. We just renovated our house--a job that was supposed to last from four to six weeks.

We've spent a lot of money on our renovation. Unfortunately, we have less storage space (and more boo-boos) now than we did before Mr. Contractor got started. So, that being said, I have to admit that I'm not at a place--mentally/emotionally--where I really love what's been done. With the exception of the bookcases and my dining room, I'd UNDO much of what was done. I'm trying to be appreciative and thankful. Maybe later--once I've licked my wounds and forgotten the name of the contractor.

Is there anything you'd UNDO--that really can't be undone? How'd you deal with it? Share with me.

I don't have any Undo things in my current home. I haven't really done any major changes. I want to redo a bathroom at some point, and build a shed. Not too big a change. Sorry that yours is disappointing.

Oh, my heart goes out to you. You hear home renovation nightmare stories all the time, and it's hard when they happen to you.

I chose this post to respond to because we had vinyl siding added to our home many years ago. At the same time we had a wacky 1950's window replaced with windows that opened and were a little more modern.

The man who put the windows in was such a bad bad worker. I challenged what he was doing because it looked to me like he was doing it wrong. We tried calling his boss, but couldn't reach him, so dumb bunny went ahead and put them in wrong.

The ultimate outcome was that the interior wall could never be smooth even after having a plasterer come and do the best he could. It's always bothered me that he did the job wrong.

The way I deal with it is let it be out of sight, out of mind, and also time heals all wounds. We had someone do the feng shui in our home earlier this year and it has made a huge difference to have the colors on the walls that we have now. I usually don't even think anymore about the bumpy wall.

I know it could be made to go away by applying wallpaper, but I have dreams of selling this home and living in one that makes more sense. The men who built this house might have been relatives of your contractor, as they made some mighty strange decisions when building the home.

Anyway, your home looks lovely. Not having as much storage space can be a bummer, but then again, maybe it will be the impetus for you to declutter and not need as much storage space!

Ah Jess, I'm sorry to hear what should be such an exciting time is fraught with anxiety and disappointment. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope things pick up and when it is all done you can forget the difficult path and love your new space. Cyber hugs to you.
