Room with a View?

Do you write in a wonderful office with a beautiful view of wildflowers and mountains? Do you pound the keys while watching soap operas, Gilmore Girls, Scrubs or CSI? When do you write? What's your routine and how does it affect you if something interferes with that routine?

I have a friend who takes off for the library on periodic writing binges. At what point do you decide to hit the library, Erica? I like that idea. I believe Erica is On The Write Path to publication. :) Another friend writes her books by hand--every morning--in a coffee shop. I believe she's published somewhere in the vicinity of fifteen books. Can you imagine writing that many pages by hand? Other writers--professional and wannabe--methodically turn out two pages a day, no more no less.

The point is: there's really no excuse not to write if writing is our passion. Time and place doesn't matter. We'll find a way. IF we're truly driven toward reaching our goal, our dream of writing a book, completing it, selling it, we'll make it happen.

Agree? Send me your thoughts.

LOL, hey, Jess, very clever. :)

Tomorrow is the day. I'm so stuck on the WIP, and so willing do to ANYTHING else around the house rather than write, that I'm packing up and heading to the library. No internet, no tv, no laundry, nothing to do but write...and if I don't, I always take one of my offspring along who gives me the one-eyebrow-lift look that gets me back on task. I feel I have to justify the parking ramp expenses and actually get some work done.

ROTFL, I thought it was kind of cute. Could hardly wait for you to see my cleverness. LOL Now if I spent as much time plotting and writing . . .

I was telling a friend what you did and she wants to give it a try too -- WITH ME. Trouble is when we get together we talk too much. :)

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and watching for that word count.

Yesterday I wanted to bash my head in with my laptop.

All day, twelve sentences.

Maybe I need a room without a view...or something...

Wanted to report in that the day at the library was a success. I wrote 3000 words.

I either hide in a study carrol or go to the quiet room. No talking, no cell phones, no noise, just the tic-tac of laptop keys. :)

I might go back again on Friday.

Congratulations, Erica!! 3000 words! WoooooWoooo, that's fantastic.

Poor Christa...only 12 sentences? Remember...school is starting soon! But you know, that's 12 sentences more than I've written.

I do my best writing during soaps, LOL. :) Gotta love them.

I give myself two hours of TV after my quiet time in the morning then it's off with the set and on with the laptop. When you're on deadline (and I am--August 1st), even that is subject to change. In fact, I don't even have time to be reading Jessy's blog! But I can't help myself. :)

Marcia, two hours of TV in the morning? What do you watch? I never turn TV on during the day. Too easy to get hooked on those old AMC movies.

My current vice is Laverne and Shirley DVD's from the library. Another good reason for me to get out of the house and work away from the tv! Marcia is more disciplined than I am...once I turn it on in the morning, I have such a hard time turning it off.

Yesterday I switched up locations and wrote at the local Panera Bread. I got 2000 words done. I guess the tone of what I was writing showed on my face, because my daughter who was with me asked if I was okay. My hero and heroine had an emotionally charged angry scene. I must've been scowling. LOL

Panera Bread? With your acute sense of smell, how did you even write? I would have been stuffing fresh bread in my mouth between keystrokes. Don't forget the butter!!

A beautiful room with a view of mountaintops or wildflowers?

No.

But I do have my own office now that the kids are all grown and gone.

But I've done my share of hand written novels. :-)

Great post!
